Status Update

November 8th, 2008 by blake · 11 Comments

Saturday night is coming to a close and the groups are making great progress. Some are further ahead than others, but everyone seems to be having fun and hard at work trying to turn their ideas into products. Here are the ideas that currently have a website.

Twitpay.me let’s you send payments via Twitter.

Closebuy.me a location-based inventory search engine. Want a specific camera? CloseBuy.me will tell you who has it in stock and how close they are to you.

GivingTi.me enables entrepreneurs to help each other one hour at a time.

Jumbis.com generates single product sales websites that turns buyers into evangelists. Automatically.

Seed Stage Records invests in young musicians and helps them secure deals with bigger record labels.

Reepli.com is a targeted social marketing effort focused on twitter and blog integration to allow companies to engage conversations.

Dinner @ Tin Drum

November 8th, 2008 by Lance Weatherby · 6 Comments

Tonight we are walking across Fifth Street and going to Tin Drum for dinner.  We may go anytime between 6 - 9 pm.

I have Gift Certificates for everyone to use.  The stated amount is $7.50 but the deal is you get one entree and a fountain drink.  If you want another type of beverage you will need to pay for it yourself.   And while a modest tip has been provided to the staff they will be much more happy if you drop them something in the tip jar.

When you want your dinner coupons come see me.  I am working with the TwitPay team in room 340.  If I am not there you can track me down at @lance or 404 808 7219.

Bombs Away

November 8th, 2008 by Lance Weatherby · 5 Comments

Not sure exactly how many projects made it through the final cut last night. I think eight, will get an update later. All I do know is that at least two, and maybe three are no longer functioning. Including mine.

Seems like one or two of the team members were not really committed to the StopWhere concept. Why they voted for it is beyond me. Thought the iPhone platform was niche. Pitched their own concept. Wanted us to all go home and think about and decide this morning. Called a vote at midnight. StopWhere won. But the Cocoa dev was no longer committed. Boom! Going to dress in “Don’t Pitch Me Bro” VC Wear today.

At least 20 people no longer have a company to work on. A bunch of them are taking their balls and going home today. Unfortunately I brought the court.

Lesson of the night, make sure your team members are committed.

If you like sipping from a firehose, check out Twitter for the unofficial backchannel of Atlanta StartupWeekend 2. Go to my profile and look at whom I follow for a good starting point. It’s also a good place to keep informed of what’s going on in the tech / entrepreneur scene in Atlanta.
